The Cotswolds is a strange place to learn what good work looks like. Honey-stone villages, dry-stone walls put up by hand four hundred years ago and still standing, the kind of pubs where the floor leans because the building has settled into the hill. Nothing about it is rushed. Nothing about it pretends to be new. The whole region operates on the quiet idea that if a thing is worth making, it's worth making to last.

That sensibility followed us across the Atlantic. We're brothers, two years apart, and we moved to Los Angeles for the reasons most British people move to Los Angeles — the weather, the work, a sense that something was happening here that wasn't happening back home. What we didn't expect was the cars.

This city has more beautiful machines per square mile than anywhere on earth. Singer 911s parked next to taquerias. Old Mercedes wagons with patina you couldn't fake. New Porsches, vintage Land Rovers, restomod Broncos — all of it, daily-driven through dust, sun, and a thousand brushless tunnels off Sepulveda. And the whole industry that's meant to look after these cars seems built around the same idea: get it done in forty minutes, wave the next one in.

We thought it was mad. So we started doing it the other way. Mobile, by appointment, no rota of clients squeezed into a single day. We bring water, power, products. We work entirely by hand. We use what we'd use on our own cars — Swissvax, Gyeon, Koch-Chemie — because a thing is only as good as the worst part of it, and we don't see the point of doing this badly.

The Detail Club LA isn't trying to be the biggest detailer in Los Angeles. We're trying to be the one you call when the car actually matters to you. The standard is the same whether it's a leased Tesla or a numbered Pagani. That's the whole idea. That's the only idea, really.
