Cars that spend time on or around Studio City production lots pick up contamination that does not match what other Valley cars get. Soundstage dust, lot vehicle exhaust, set construction debris, and the constant in-and-out of Universal, Warner Bros, and Disney parking creates a specific kind of grime. We see it on producer, actor, and crew vehicles weekly.
What lot dust actually contains
Studio lot dust is different from typical Valley dust. Soundstage construction leaves drywall powder, sawdust, paint dust, and resin particles airborne. Outdoor lot work adds asphalt dust from the constant heavy vehicle traffic. Set vehicles, generators, and craft service trucks add diesel exhaust particulate. The mix is heavier, oilier, and more bonded to paint than residential street dust. Standard automatic car washes do not remove it cleanly. It often smears under brushes, making the paint look worse than before the wash.
Why Studio City production cars need different care
Production schedules are unforgiving. Cars need to look right between meetings, network drop-offs, talent transport runs, and the occasional press call. We service many Studio City clients on a 2-week or weekly maintenance schedule specifically because of how fast lot work dirties their cars. The cars that look the worst by Friday are the ones that started clean on Monday but spent the week in lot environments.
How we clean lot-contaminated cars properly
Standard wash first to remove loose surface dust. Then iron-X chemical decontamination, which dissolves bonded metal particles from brake dust and construction debris. Clay bar treatment removes any remaining bonded contaminants the iron-X did not get. Foam wash again, two-bucket method, microfiber dry. For cars with heavy lot mileage, we add a single-stage polish every 3 to 4 months to remove the micro-scratches that build up from the more aggressive cleaning.
Concierge pick-up from the lots
Most Universal, Warner Bros, and Disney lots allow approved vendor pick-up of personal vehicles during business hours. We collect your car from your reserved spot or production parking, detail it at our facility or your home, and return it before your call time or wrap. Most pick-ups take 4 to 6 hours including transport time. We coordinate with your assistant or production office to make the swap invisible to your schedule.
Photo-ready detailing for press and shoots
Press cars, social media content cars, magazine photoshoots, and continuity shots all have specific requirements. We can detail to camera-ready spec, which involves additional steps beyond a standard detail. Glass treated with rain repellent for cleaner reflections. Tyre dressing applied lightly to avoid sling onto white set floors. Engine bay detailed if any hood shots are planned. We coordinate with publicists, talent managers, and content producers regularly.
Membership programs for production professionals
Our most-booked Studio City membership is the Standard at $199 per month, which covers two maintenance details. Most production clients use one detail mid-week and one weekend, keeping the car consistently camera-ready. Weekly Membership at $300 per month is popular for active series production where the car is in heavy use Monday through Friday. Both include priority booking and discounted coatings.
